– WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN –
As I reached my late twenties and into my (very) early thirties I’ve realised that friendships should be supportive, building each other up, they shouldn’t be toxic, competitive or bitchy. I have, like most people had my share of joyful and testing friends. Long gone are some of the testing friendships of my teens and early adult years (phew!)
I enjoy a great support network of strong woman, who are comfortable with themselves, many of whom I’m lucky enough to call best friends. I even have the strongest babe as my mother.
Sharing the love is the best, whether thats giving a fellow blogger a supportive comment, or linking Instagram snaps to a coffee date with a pal who’s feeling down. It’s great to see us being supportive and showing just how proud we are of each other.
I am proud to call myself a feminist, its such a shame that still to this day some people misunderstand, which is utter nonsense as it means seeking equality. The Oxford English Dictionary definition of feminism states – the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
I know plenty of men who support feminism, playing their part in creating genuine equality. In my opinion being a feminist is seeing all people as equals, striving for equal rights in work and pay gaps, equal rights for all religions, races and sexes, regardless of class or ability. It’s about educating those that still live in the past, seeing scarcity rather than opportunity. Or for those who think its ok to heckle someone in the street because of their blinkered views. It’s about equal rights for woman, its equal rights for our LGBT community, for anyone who is pushed downing held back in our society. Basically, what I’m trying to get at is ‘share the love people’, it not only makes you feel good but empowers others too.
